After deciding on a good spot to restart the interview, click the Pause button again to
resume recording. Wait a couple of seconds to record some silence before giving the
visual cue to begin again. Repeat these steps any time you need to pause for any
reason. When the interview is over, click the Record button to stop recording.
Next, I’m going to explain how to record a phone interview using AHP. If you don’t have
an interest in “phoners,” Feel free to skip past this lesson to learn how to edit your audio
file.
Recording a Phone Interview
We use a Plantronics DSP 500 Headset ($47.99) for CareerChat phone interviews, as it
provides good quality audio at a decent price. This unit has since been replaced by the
Plantroniocs DSP 500 Headset
The only other equipment you’ll need for this setup is a computer with a broadband
Internet connection and Skype and SkypeOut (Free+$0.021 per minute, Mac/PC,
www.skype.com) installed on your computer.
We use Skype to call our guest’s phone line over the Internet and record both ends of the
conversation into a single digital audio file using AHP. You don’t have to use AHP to
record your conversation, however. Ecamm Network’s Call Recorder for Skype ($14.95,
Mac, www.ecamm.com/mac/callrecorder) is a simple plug-in for the program that
obviates the need for AHP, but it won’t allow you to control your audio like you can with
the tools available in AHP. Still, it’s a very easy-to-use option. PC users can turn to
HotRecorder ($14.95, PC, www.hotrecorder.com) to record Skype calls.
