Audio Hijack Pro is a podcaster’s best friend.
Combining audio from multiple applications can also be accomplished by bringing
together a witch’s brew of Mac freeware, including Audacity, LineIn
(http://rogueamoeba.com/freebies/), Soundflower, and SoundFlowerbed
(http://www.cycling74.com/). Many podcasters will confirm, however, that you’ll
experience a lot less aggravation if you simply spring for AHP. It truly succeeds in
simplifying and enhancing the podcast recording process.
Note to users of Intel-based Macs: AHP cannot hijack audio from applications running
under Rosetta. Hijacked apps must be of the Universal Binary variety. See Apple’s Web
site for an explanation of Rosetta (http://www.apple.com/rosetta/).
Programs such as Ableton’s LIVE 24-Bit Recording Software ($399.95) or Mackie’s more
affordable Tracktion2 Music Production Software ($149) are a couple of sophisticated
multi-track recording/editing programs that support a variety of useful features and plug-
ins. Depending on your needs and budget, these might be more attractive options for you
than AHP.
