Because iTunes is ubiquitous, free, works on both Macs and PCs and is easy to use, this

tutorial will focus on how to subscribe to podcasts using iTunes. Let’s take a look at how

you can subscribe to a podcast using iTunes. The program can be downloaded for free

from Apple’s iTunes download Web page (www.apple.com/itunes/download/).

After downloading and installing iTunes, go ahead and launch the program and click on

the Podcasts entry (A) under Library, as shown above.

Now you’re ready to subscribe to your first podcast. Conveniently, there is a podcast

directory built right into iTunes. You can access the iTunes directory by clicking on the

Podcast Directory text (B), as shown in Figure 1. For this example, however, we’re going

to subscribe to the CareerChat podcast through the CareerChat Web page. This method

will still require iTunes for subscription, however. I’m showing you this route because it’ll

reveal how to subscribe through someone’s Web page, which is not as obvious a process

as subscribing directly through the iTunes Podcast Directory.

As shown in Figure 2, when you visit the CareerChat Web page

(http://www.units.muohio.edu/careers/students/podcast/), you’ll see iTunes and XML “chicklets” featured

above Emily, a student worker in Miami’s Office of Career Services.
