Figure 115: The AHPY feed subscribed to in iTunes.
The episode should download into your iTunes Podcasts library, as shown in Figure 115.
You are now subscribed to the AHPY podcast. Any files posted to the AHPY blog in the
future will automatically download to your iTunes application.
Congratulations! At this point, you can stop here, pat yourself on the back and call
yourself a podcaster. Or, you could take things to the next level by running your feed
through the FeedBurner.com Web service (Free). FeedBurner will not only rewrite our
WordPress feed to include iTunes Store tags, but will also provide us with information
about how many times the feed is accessed and how many times episodes are
downloaded over a period of time. In addition, FeedBurner provides a number of useful
tools that will help promote our podcast.
Because we’ll be submitting our podcast for inclusion in the iTunes Store podcast
directory and we’d like to receive statistical information about our audience, we’re going
to take the next step and let FeedBurner rewrite our WordPress feed for us.
Using FeedBurner to Rewrite a Feed for iTunes Store
It takes a number of steps to burn a feed with FeedBurner, but it’s not complicated and
you’ll need to run through this process only once. To create (burn) your feed for free, visit
the FeedBurner.com Web site.
1.
As shown in Figure 116, input the feed URL from your WordPress blog.
Figure 116: Type your blog feed URL in the form field.
Check the I am a podcaster! box and click Next.
