Feed Distribution
So, now that we have a working WordPress blog, you can give the blog URL
(http://ahpy.wordpress.com/) to your students. While we can also give students the blog’s
podcast feed URL (http://ahpy.wordpress.com/feed/) to have posts delivered to them
automatically, this WordPress-generated feed does not include tags specific to the
iTunes Store. These special tags provide additional information about your podcast in the
iTunes Store listings and should be used if you’re planning to submit your podcast for
inclusion in the iTunes Store podcast directory. iTunes feed generation and submission
will be covered shortly.
If you don’t plan to submit your podcast for inclusion in the iTunes Store podcast
directory, your students can simply use the blog’s feed URL as-is to subscribe to your
podcast. Before you start promoting the URL, however, let’s check it to make sure it
validates. To check our feed, we’ll visit FeedValidator.org and input the feed URL
(http://ahpy.wordpress.com/feed/) in the form field, as shown in Figure 114.

After clicking the Validate button, Feed Validator will analyze your feed and return a
congratulatory message announcing that your feed is valid (hopefully). Now that we have
a valid feed, let’s subscribe to it in iTunes.
