Because WordPress is a free and easy blogging solution that offers a number of
attractive features, this tutorial will focus on using that particular tool to create a gateway
for our podcast.
Creating a Blog With WordPress
You don’t need to install any software on your server or know how to code to use
WordPress. However, for those of you with more advanced computer skills, there is also
a free, downloadable version of the program that you can install on your own server. If
you’re going to do this, make sure to install Mighty Seek’s PodPress plugin (Free,
www.mightyseek.com/podpress/) to give your blog extra podcasting powers.
I’m assuming that the majority of you don’t have, want or need advanced computer skills,
so we’ll take the route in which we let WordPress do all the heavy lifting for us. While a
complete rundown of WordPress user settings is beyond the scope of this guide, I will
show you how to quickly create a blog and post a podcast to it. All WordPress settings
will be left in their default state, unless otherwise noted. Review the instructions on the
WordPress Web site to learn about settings and functions not covered here.
We’ll set up our blog by simply creating a WordPress account online, filling in a few form
fields and clicking a few buttons.
1.
Visit The WordPress Web site (www.wordpress.com/signup/) to signup for your
free blog. Fill in the form fields, as shown in Figure 105. Click Next.
